We were so excited about this trip, The 'Tour de France'. I had watched it on TV so many times and wondered how all these people could possibly follow this race all over France for 3 weeks. On June 13th we set off to Calais and visited Belgium, Netherlands / Holland and Luxembourg rejoining the Tour in France.
We arrived in Belgium early the Motorhome finding a parking spot. Chairs out, camera ready we were 10kms out
Liege
Bike off the motorhome and I cycle the last 10kms... moving on through the towns across France through
Wilz, Esch-sur-Sure & Stavelot
Where to next? We could not make the next stage so found a crosspoint and caught a quick glimpse at
Grevenmacher
What first strikes you is the shear scale of this amazing cycle race and the logistics required. It is simply astonishing and quite unbelievable. Chasing the race down became something of an obsession to see whether we could squeeze in another stage each day or where we could intercept it somewhere. The race itself passes through pretty quickly and so there is always time to explore the areas.
Perigueux
Bergerac
Eymet
It was time to find an overnight stop and somewhere I could ride the stage the day before. We found the perfect stop and an amazing climb and one Froome would puncture on the next day.
Chanaeleilles
We had some friendly barracking, enjoyed a glass of wine and moved on. Saint-Victor, Rhone-Alpes
we even got on the Channel 4... breaking away from the tour we travelled North toward Paris
We left Paris, completed another Parkrun at Pierre-de-Bresse and had a drink with the locals after the run... what a truly great experience this trip was meeting different people from all over the world ... We kept a log of some of the costs involved, click here to see costings
