One cruise down and we were hooked. How could you get on one ship in such luxury and be transported to a number of locations around the world without having to think about all those things like; transport, weather, food and where to go each night.
In early 2000 we found time to get away a few times mostly with Royal Caribbean International but we did try Thomson. This was a last minute booking around the Canaries. We had a great time but it was clearly a lower cost cruise in comparison.
After visiting europe a few times and being on Brilliance of the Seas a few times we fancied the Baltic cruise on Jewel of the Seas. Cool temperatures and choppy sea but amazing scenery in the fjords without even leaving the ship.
We wanted to explore further afield so China was to be our next trip. We found a cruise that seemed just perfect that included China, Japan and South Korea. Such history in all there places and the people were so friendly. One of the most memorable trips from the ship was to Nagasaki to the war museum.
The time had to come for the big ship the Oasis was in the news and it seemed the only thing to do. USA here we come and a Caribbean cruise. This ship was a game changer, nearly 5000 passengers and there is space for everyone.
As we moved on and made some life changing decisions we were to change direction with work and embark on a different type of cruise a private boat and trip to the Galapagos Islands including South America. If there is one place on the planet that people should visit I think Galapagos is it. We also enjoyed the smaller private groups protecting nature and enhancing the experience.
We arrived home from South America and told ourselves that the travelling was done for now. With the unfortunate news that our Dog 'Jessie" has passed away we decided to continue our adventures. We would prove that you could almost travel around the world without the need for numbers of flights. Yes, you guessed it this would be a cruise ship eppic.
We did fly to Vancouver with British Airways for a 5 night stay. Our accommodation was to be an Airbnb this was new for us as Airbnb was not as popular in the UK as it seemed to be in other countries. We explored all over Vancouver, mostly on foot and needed the rest, well we say rest as we joined the Radiance of the Seas and departed on a 44 day voyage, but where to? Get ready for this: Alaska, North and Southbound, Hawaii, Tahiti, Bora Bora coming to rest for a 3 months pause in Australia.
Whilst in Australia we made the error of looking at Cruise prices and destinations for the latter part of our stay. We had never considered Holland America Cruise line before but the itinerary suited us perfectly and Papua New Guinea was on it. We booked one cruise and within 1 hour of being on the ship booked the next doing South and North Australia.
South Australia was fantastic covering Kangaroo Island, Tasmania and the Great Ocean Road but we were unaware of just how much better the trip was going to get as we arrived at Papua New Guinea and the Conflict Islands.
