A most magical place! We visited Machu Picchu in April 2018. After a night in the very colourful Cusco we travelled by train to stay overnight in the village at the base of Machu Picchu.
It was an early start the next morning to take the bus ride up the very narrow and winding road, which was an experience in itself. We hiked up to the sun gate for some amazing views back down to the Inca village. We only had three nights allocated to this part of our adventure although for longer trips it is possible to hike through the Sacred Valley rather than taking the train.
Cusco Definitely a place we could have stayed for longer. Such a vibrant and colourful place with interesting architecture, an amazing market and the most delicious jugo (fruit juice)!
Lima Fortunately we were able to spend a couple of days in Lima giving a real urban contrast from the lush greenery of the mountains. We took a tour around the city with the craziest taxi driver who agreed to wait whilst we looked around at each location including Miraflores, Huaca Pucllana and the Parque del Amor; it was money well spent.
