Scotland is a wonderful place with so much to explore. With family and friends living in the Highland village of Tomintoul on the NE250 we have spend a lot of time there over the years. The Moray Coast is one of our favourite regions, with it's slightly warmer than average microclimate. Since having a motorhome, we have managed to see so much more of Scotland including some of the Hebridean Islands. We have driven over the infamous Applecross pass on the NC500 route around the North, visited Orkney and stayed overnight by some beautiful but very windy beaches on the West Coast.
The winter months change the outlook and much of the highlands has snow. This is the time for locals and tourists to try experiences like skiing, snowboarding, tubing and sledging. You can still explore the hills, the surrounding area and of course the whisky trail but be prepared for the weather, which can change in an instant and is very unpredictable.
Such fantastic views across the open fields, rivers and lochs. We even had time for a very chilly swim...
We continued to explore around the Moray coast and are managing to find some amazing places on the North East 250 route. With the North East costal 250 complete we will continue to explore the stunning Aberdeenshire coastline.
The coastline is simply stunning in this area and easily on a par with New Zealand. Driving around the NE corner we pass through places like Crudden Bay and Collieston before returning to Aberdeen
The sea front area with free parking is a bonus at Aberdeen and offers the venue for Parkrun on a Saturday morning. Just a couple of miles away the city has Victoria park with a 1km running / walking track marked.
Before moving inland we headed a few miles south to another costal town at Stonehaven where we would also find the hiding place for the Scottish crown jewels Dunnotter Castle
We then returned to the highest village in the Highlands Tomintoul Tomintoul has so much to offer it has further information on the Tomintoul page...
