After returning from our previous trip the last thing we were expecting was another cruise this year. Circumstances prevailed and we went along with Sue's parents on a trip that started in Scotland then took us to Iceland, New York, New England and Canada. It was a 17 day trip that included a 9 night cruise on Royal Caribbean ship Anthem of the Seas. We cruised out of New York for New England & Canada
Our home for 9 nights was be Anthem of the Seas and with around 5000 other passengers we left New York for a day at Sea before an early arrival in Boston Massachusetts, one of the oldest municipalities in the United States . We were very excited about this; visiting Boston not only for its history but it was also a chance to do a Parkrun event. Parkrun consists of free 5kms run / walk events on a Saturday morning at 9am, all over the world. We have never seen anyone attempt this from a cruise ship before and it could well be a world first.
On completing Parkrun we decided to run / walk the 10 kms back to the ship along a beautiful path called the Emerald Necklace. Frederick Law Olmsted designed the Boston Park system affectionately call the Emerald Necklace, a string of nine continuous parks under stunning trees and by a series of lakes that return from Jamaica Park to Boston City.
After seeing another side of Boston away from the City we return to the ship for food & fun
Another day another Port. We arrive in Portland Maine and explored the area. Unfortunately the weather was at best terrible, we were cold, very wet and not inspired at all. We walked around but got saturated, we returned to the ship absolutely soaked
We dried off and had some food, of course. Got the roller-skates on and more fun... Next stop was Bar harbour and we had our running shoes ready again. This was the home of the Arcadia National Park. We ran, ran and ran in the amazing park.
What a great day just being with nature. Our next stop was Saint John and there was an improvement in the weather. We visit the Historic town and the famous reversing falls with some video of our adventure.
Finally a sea day to get some more things done on the ship including a trip to the captain's bridge and a swing on the Trapeze.
The final port of call was Halifax but as we were late in the cruising season it appeared that Halifax had gone on holiday. We did leave the ship and found time for a walk on the boardwalk and to the farmers market.
What a great trip this was and the ship was Amazing. Time to make the most of the last seas day before returning to New York
