South America has many hidden treasures and we will be returning at some point.
Our South America Adventure was timed with other family who had already booked part of the trip. We allowed ourselves 5 days before they arrived in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. The trip then consisted of a number of flights across South America to cover; Quito, Galapagos Islands, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Iguassu Falls and Rio de Janeiro. Galapagos and Machu Picchu are covered on their own pages.
On arrival in Quito we wondered what we would do for 5 days before the others arrived. We need not have worried as being built on the grounds of an Incan city, there is so much to see in the area. The downside being that some people, like me get altitude sickness and this is an experience that was not only uncomfortable but very scary.
Iguazú National Park covers an area of subtropical rainforest in Argentina’s Misiones province, on the border with Brazil. We spent a couple of days in the area to cover both sides of the falls and did the renowned speed boat ride before moving on to the very well known Rio de Janeiro the home of Cristo Redentor and Copacabana beach.
Rio de Janeiro
Copacabana beach one of the most beautiful and famous beaches in the world
